   In an age when most kids toys are made from plastic, I am happy when I can find a simple wooden toy. This seems like a classic toy that would have been around when I was a kid, although I didn't have anything like it. The concept is simple, a wooden worm with a string that you can lace through a wooden watermelon. It has a solid construction of wood. The paint colors are crisp and bright and there are little eyes painted on the worm. The string is like what you would find in a hooded sweatshirt. I got this for my 3 yr old son. I showed him how the worms could go through the holes and he was excited when I handed it to him. Of course he immediately decided to use his imagination and create new games with it including using the watermelon as fake food in his pretend kitchen and hanging the watermelon over the railing (pretending to fish). I have not seen him actually stringing the worm through the melon as it was designed, but he has had a lot of fun with it. Being able to use this toy in a variety of ways is not as common with modern toys. He has been quite rough and it is still in one piece. I am glad I bought this for my child, but I probably would hesitate giving it as a gift with the foreign language packaging.

   Here's the deal... The product arrived on time and in good condition. My daughter is a speech language pathologist. She works with three year old children to twenty-one year old adults with autism from one end of the spectrum to the other. As such they all have various behavior triggers and reward triggers. All I can say is that these were a big hit at the autism center and that the other speech language pathologists were begging my daughter to share this wooden cheese lacing toy to use with their patients. Vibrant yellow and smoothly drilled, milled and painted made this a good choice. It seems to have a calming effect on whomever uses it...including me. Look, I know it seems silly...but it's simple and it works. It is now in high demand at this center for autism and my daughter is so happy that I stumbled across it. Anything to help these beautiful misunderstood children and adults. There you have it.

   My daughter's Occupational therapist had one of these, and she used to love it!! It is wonderful for both general skills like fine motor skills, but also emotional regulation, and turn taking if you have a child who is easily frustrated, you can ask them to work their way up to a full maze, or take turns raveling and unraveling the mouse. It is also just way fun for any kid. I love this for her, and when it showed up she was very excited. This was great timing for both nostalgia and for a little entertainment while recovering from surgery. She will sit and play with this for a long time. I recommend this for all young children. A little time away from screens and complex toys. It is wonderful for them.
