It took a little bit to get the mud thickness right but once I did it was perfect and the thicker parts of mud looks like the petals are sticking way out and in person you could see the details in each leaf you have to put the paint on very light so you don't cover the details

Before I started the project, I tested out the concept by mudding a scrap piece of drywall. It's one of the photos I've included with the review. On the left side (around 2/3 of the board), I applied the mud with a roller, ran my 12" drywall knife across to smooth it out, then rolled the pattern into it. On the right side, I rolled the mud on and did not smooth it out before using the pattern roller. My wife and I liked the look both ways, but our house is 100 years old, so we felt the look of the non-smoothed on the right suited it better. A bit more like an old country home.

I textured 1100sf of ceilings...rolling is the way to go! Watered down to a waffle batter consistency, I applyied the joint compound to the bond-primed surface with a 3/4” paint roller. Then used the patterned roller in random directions to create the textured design. Turned out great!

My home was built in 1926. Being off the ground, there has to be a space where workers can go under house for electrical and plumbing repairs. A faux brick wall that can be easily removed. After cutting a board the size of the old screen, I applied a layer of alabaster grout. The original brick work was very rustic, imperfect so I was hoping the grout would have the same effect. I regret not practicing once but was impatient. Sprayed the roller with nonstick cooking spray and ran it over the grout about 15 min. after placing it. Color matched the old brick and I feel it really made the section of house that was so unsightly, fresh. Made the door out of old flooring, and painted with colors of house/accents. Very happy with the roller.

A couple of things I found: don't get upset if you mess up, just run the mud roller over it again; it erases the pattern and you can start again. I was a little concerned about the little stalactites hanging down - quite a few of them. But I just waited til the next day and brushed a piece rigid cardboard across them to snap them off. Oh, also, it helped to dip the pattern roller into a bucket of water and swish it a little after each run to remove clinging mud..

I bought this to make a brick wall over an existing cinder block wall that was a mess. It really does take some getting used to so make sure you practice on some scrap wood or sheet rock. I used pam cooking spray on the roller between applications. It will stick if you don't use something and you'll make quite a mess trying to fix it. Good luck!
